Professors Janet Alsup and Christian Knoeller
Website design can be a challenging task even for experienced designers
and doubly so when the designers have little experience with the web
design tools. Yet this is the task that Janet Alsup and Christian
Knoeller tackled after attending a P3T3
workshop in the summer of 2001. Using Dreamweaver and Fireworks
on the Macintosh, they created a website for English Education that
looks very professional.

Challenges and Successes
The work had its share of challenges. Dr. Alsup and Dr. Knoeller
could not directly access the server to make changes; they needed
to work with Liberal Arts technical support personnel. The computer
set-up was not ideal, and changes needed to be made. Photos had to
be resized and cropped, and issues with how browsers render designed
web pages caused some problems. But, these issues were eventually
overcome.
The real success occurs when the final project comes to completion.
All of the hours of work are worthwhile when the site goes on-line
for the first time and feedback is positive. In addition to gaining
a new website for their program area, the designers now have skills
to develop pages in Dreamweaver and edit images in Fireworks. Each
time they work in the software, their skills increase and their vision
for design evolves. The artistic design and simple features of the
English Education site will keep it adaptable for many semesters in
the future. Check it out!
